App stole my feature: Reddit throws shade at Twitter’s “new” feature

Twitter is experimenting with allowing users to upvote or downvote Tweet replies, and many have spotted similarities to Reddit functionality.

TAYLOR KNIGHT:

TWITTER IS TESTING THE WATERS WITH A NEW FEATURE THAT ALLOWS USERS TO DOWN VOTE OR UP VOTE REPLIES ON TWEETS.

TWITTER SAYS THE NEW FEATURE IS “ A TEST FOR RESEARCH” AND ITS  AVAILABLE TO UNSPECIFIED NUMBER OF USERS.

IT WORKS LIKE THIS.

WHEN YOU UPVOTE CONTENT  BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT YOU’LL START TO SEE  SIMILAR CONTENT ON YOUR FEED.

THE DOWN VOTES  ARE ONLY SEEN BY THE PERSON WHO POSTED THE TWEET.

EVEN THOUGH THE PERSON WON’T BE PUBLICLY SHAMED – THERE IS CONCERN.

THAT TOO MANY DOWN VOTES MAY TAKE A TOLL ON SOMEONE’S TWITTER EXPERIENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH.

TWITTER DID CLARIFY THE DOWN VOTE IS NOT A DISLIKE BUTTON BUT MAY STILL WEIGH THE SAME FROM A USER’S PERSPECTIVE.

SOUNDS FAMILIAR RIGHT?  THAT’S BECAUSE IT’S SIMILAR TO REDDITS DOWN VOTE AND UP VOTE SYSTEM.

REDDIT HAD SOME TWITTER FINGERS THOUGH AND THREW SHADE AT TWITTER FOR THE FEATURE…. WITH THIS TWEET RIGHT HERE.

NO WORD IF THE VOTE FEATURE WILL EVER BE PERMANENT OR JUST AN EXPERIMENT FOR THE TIME BEING.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS NEW TWITTER EXPERIMENT?

LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW.
