Polling shows Texas Governor Greg Abbott has widened his lead over Democratic Challenger Beto O’Rourke.
In a new Spectrum News-Siena College Poll, Abbott leads O’Rourke by 7 points. That is partially driven by voters’ priorities. Texans listed economic issues like inflation and immigration as their top two issues heading into the election.
58% of Texans support Abbott’s Operation Lone Star which puts National Guard troops on the border. A majority of Texans also support bussing migrants to big cities outside the state.
Texas voters better align with O’Rourke’s views on abortion. 55% oppose the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, and 64% oppose Texas’ new abortion law championed by Abbott. But abortion is fourth on the list of their priorities.
As for the future of Texas. 47% say the state is headed in the wrong direction, 43% say it’s on the right track. Straight from DC, I’m Ray Bogan.
