Many human rights groups disapproved of President Joe Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia. The families of some who died in the 9/11 terror attacks saw it as a move in the right direction.
“I think that the president has received more criticism than is warranted for this trip,” Brett Eagleson, president of 9/11 Justice, said. “Look, the president is still our head of state. He is still our elected leader. He needs to go to Saudi Arabia to negotiate a whole host of issues.”
According to Eagleson, one of those issues should have been pressuring Saudi Arabian officials into accepting responsibility for 9/11. Eagleson said he hopes to see Biden do this in the future.
“President Biden campaigned on the fact that he was going to declassify the documents which show that the Saudis were responsible for the 9/11 attacks,” Eagleson said. “And the president actually did that, and we now have the documents, which are now public.”
Saudi Arabia has denied involvement in the attacks.
Eagleson was 15 when his father died in the World Trade Center. He, along with other affected families, have filed a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia.
