5 years since Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico trampled by Hurricane Fiona

Tuesday marked five years since Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico as a high-end category four hurricane killing roughly 3,000 people.  It is regarded as the worst natural disaster in recorded history to affect the island. Fast forward to today, residents were sitting in the dark as a blackout was cast over the island due to another hurricane. Hurricane Fiona tore through its territory hitting the island as a category one storm and now upgraded to category three.

More than 30 inches of water was dumped on parts of the island. It was so much water that landslides formed and are destroying infrastructure. President Joe Biden has already declared a state of emergency in Puerto Rico. Winds carried speeds of more than 115 miles per hour according to the National Weather Service. More than 900 people were rescued by the National Guard. More than 1 million people were left without running water and dozens of homes were destroyed. At least three people have died due to the severe weather according to officials

Hurricane Fiona also made its way through the Dominican Republic on Monday. Now, the hurricane is projected to turn north where Bermuda is directly in its path. Hurricane Fiona is the first major hurricane of the season. It is projected to upgrade to a category four storm this week as Bermuda readies itself for impact.
