Thousands of migrants are walking more than 700 miles in a caravan of protest. The migrants, who are mostly Venezuelan, were detained for months in southern Mexico.
Now, they are walking from the town of Tapachula, Mexico, near the border of Guatemala, to Mexico City, in an attempt to speed up their applications for U.S. asylum.
The caravan of around 3,000 migrants first formed in protest against detention centers. In March, 40 people died in a detention center fire in northern Mexico when the guard on duty who had the key to their cells was nowhere to be found.
The caravan, which began the march on April 23, expects to reach Mexico City in 10 days. Many of migrants have the ultimate goal of getting into the U.S.
