Pay close attention to Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds

After Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) gave the GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union address in 2022, she entered the national spotlight. Now her policy achievements are getting attention. In March 2023, she signed a bill that would ban transgender students from using a public school restroom that aligns with their gender identity. In early April 2023, she signed a comprehensive reorganization bill that expands her authority and merges many state agencies, eliminating hundreds of government positions.

Straight Arrow News contributor Newt Gingrich thinks she’s someone to watch because she could become the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2024.

Personally, I would love to see Governor Reynolds debating Kamala Harris. I think it would be a mismatch of extraordinary proportions. But in addition, she’s a really dedicated, hard-working, commonsense person. And in the time we had together —about 40 minutes of chatting about politics and government, because she actually first got elected back in the 1994 Contract with America wave, so we have a lot of affection for each other and a lot of ties that bring us together — and I was just really struck. This is a woman who gets up every morning, tries to figure out what she can get done for Iowa, and goes to work and gets it done.  And then the next day, she gets up and does the same thing all over.

Every single Republican legislator I talked to spoke about her fondly and with a deep sense of respect, and they kept telling me they did not want her to be the vice presidential nominee, because they don’t want to lose her in Iowa where she’s doing such a great job.

So I think Kim Reynolds is somebody you ought to pay attention to. I think she has a great future. And I think that you’re going to hear a lot more about her in the next few years.

Someone people should start paying a lot of attention to is Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa. I just had the opportunity to be in Des Moines and stopped by to see her. I’ve known her for many years, back before she was even lieutenant governor. She has become a remarkable leader. They have consolidated their government, saving millions and millions of dollars. They have passed probably the boldest school reform program in the entire country. She really has worked hard at creating a Iowa Republican Party, which now is totally dominant. They have a veto-proof majority in the House. They have a huge majority in the Senate. They have every single congressional seat, both U.S. Senate seats. And Kim Reynolds, I think, has a very real likelihood of becoming the next vice presidential candidate for the Republicans. She’s articulate. Personally, I would love to see Governor Reynolds debating Kamala Harris. I think it would be a mismatch of extraordinary proportions.
