Republicans to investigate the Bidens and no tickets for Swifties

Republicans vow to investigate the Bidens; the Saudi crown prince off the hook in murder case; and if you’re a Taylor Swift fan, you’re out of luck. These stories highlight the morning rundown for Friday, Nov. 18, 2022.

House GOP to investigate the Bidens – The new GOP majority in the house wasted no time in announcing its plans to investigate the president. Top Republican leaders on Thursday outlined a broad range of investigative targets focused on President Joe Biden and his family’s business dealings.

Republicans said that they will look into what they call “suspicious bank reports” and whistleblower allegations that the president was involved in his son, Hunter Biden’s, foreign business dealings.

The White House said the investigations are politically motivated and a waste of time.

Crown prince is off the hook – The Biden administration announced that the Saudi prince who reportedly ordered the killing of American journalist Jamal Khashoggi has immunity.

Khashoggi was killed and dismembered at the order of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, according to the CIA. His crime was speaking out against the Saudi government.

Khashoggi’s fiancee sued the crown prince, but because he is the sitting head of government, he is immune from any lawsuit under international law.

The White House said this has nothing to do with the merits of the case, only a legal binding that won’t allow the suit to go through.

Elizabeth Holmes sentencing – Today, in a California courtroom, Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes will be sentenced for her blood-testing technology that was proven to be bogus. A federal judge will decide whether Holmes should serve a lengthy prison sentence for deceiving both company investors and patients who bought into her scheme.

Holmes was convicted of four counts of investor fraud and conspiracy back in January.

“Paralyzing” snow storm hits New York – A potentially historic snow storm is bearing down on western New York. Residents are bracing for what could amount to five feet of snowfall. A state of emergency has already been declared.

The snow is projected to fall at a fast rate, dumping several inches per hour. The National Weather Service is calling the storm “paralyzing” for those in its path.

Taylor Swift tickets canceled – Ticketmaster said it is canceling Friday’s ticket sale for Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras tour. They’ve faced major scrutiny for the site’s meltdown on Tuesday after an unprecedented two million Swift tickets were sold.

Tickets were supposed to be available to the general public Friday, but Ticketmaster said the demand on its system is too high.

KARAH RUCKER: GOOD MORNING I’M KARAH RUCKER. THE TIME IS NOW 8 O CLOCK ON THIS FRIDAY MORNING.
THE NEW GOP MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE WASTING NO TIME TO ANNOUNCE ITS PLANS TO INVESTIGATE THE PRESIDENT.
THIS IS YOUR MORNING UPDATE.

TOP REPUBLICAN LEADERS HAVE ANNOUNCED THEIR TOP PRIORITY WHEN THEY FORMALLY TAKE CONTROL OF THE HOUSE NEXT YEAR, AN INVESTIGATION INTO PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AND HIS FAMILY’S BUSINESS DEALINGS.

REPUBLICANS SAY THEY WILL LOOK INTO WHAT THEY CALL “SUSPICIOUS BANK REPORTS” AND WHISTLEBLOWER ALLEGATIONS THAT THE PRESIDENT WAS INVOLVED WITH HIS SON HUNTER BIDEN’S FOREIGN BUSINESS DEALINGS.

THE MOVE IS A MIRROR-EFFECT FOR HOUSE DEMOCRATS WHO OPENED UP INVESTIGATIONS INTO THEN-PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP.

THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SAYS THE SAUDI PRINCE WHO REPORTEDLY ORDERED THE KILLING OF AMERICAN JOURNALIST JAMAL KHASHOGGI HAS IMMUNITY.

KHASHOGGI WAS KILLED AND DISMEMBERED AT THE ORDER OF SAUDI ARABIAN CROWN PRINCE MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN, ACCORDING TO THE C-I-A. HIS CRIME WAS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE SAUDI GOVERNMENT.

KHASHOGGI’S FIANCE SUED THE CROWN PRINCE. BUT BECAUSE MOHAMMED IS THE SITTING HEAD OF GOVERNMENT, HE IS IMMUNE FROM ANY LAWSUIT UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW.

THE WHITE HOUSE SAID THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MERITS OF THE CASE, ONLY A LEGAL BINDING THAT WON’T ALLOW THE SUIT TO GO THROUGH.

TODAY, IN A CALIFORNIA COURTROOM, THERANOS FOUNDER ELIZABETH HOLMES WILL BE SENTENCED FOR HER BLOOD-TESTING TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS PROVEN TO BE BOGUS.

A FEDERAL JUDGE WILL DECIDE WHETHER HOLMES SHOULD SERVE A LENGTHY PRISON SENTENCE FOR DECEIVING BOTH COMPANY INVESTORS AND PATIENTS WHO BOUGHT IN TO HER SCHEME.

IT WAS IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR WHEN A COURT CONVICTED THE C-E-O ON FOUR COUNTS OF INVESTOR FRAUD AND CONSPIRACY.

A POTENTIALLY HISTORIC SNOW STORM IS BEARING DOWN ON WESTERN NEW YORK. RESIDENTS ARE BRACING FOR WHAT COULD AMOUNT TO FIVE FEET OF SNOWFALL. A STATE OF EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED.

THE SNOW IS PROJECTED TO FALL AT A FAST RATE OF SEVERAL INCHES PER HOUR. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CALLING THE STORM “PARALYZING” FOR THOSE IN ITS PATH.

TICKETMASTER SAYS THEY ARE CANCELING TODAY’S TICKET SALE FOR TAYLOR SWIFT’S UPCOMING TOUR.

THEY’VE FACED MAJOR SCRUTINY FOR THE SITE’S “MELTDOWN” ON TUESDAY OVER A PRE-SALE EVENT FOR TAYLOR SWIFT TICKETS. AN UNPRECEDENTED TWO MILLION TICKETS WERE SOLD.

TICKETS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TODAY. BUT TICKETMASTER SAYS THE DEMAND ON ITS SYSTEM IS TOO HIGH.
