Oath Keepers founder trial; potential ‘Rust’ charges; NASA crash test

On Sept. 27, 2022, jury selection begins in one of the biggest Jan. 6 trials to date; potential charges could be announced “within weeks” related to the deadly shooting on the “Rust” movie set; and NASA’s asteroid crash test is deemed a success.

Jury selection in Oath Keepers founder trial – Jury selection will begin Tuesday in the criminal trial of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and four of his associates. They are charged with seditious conspiracy, accused of planning for weeks to prevent the transfer of presidential power between President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. While hundreds of people have already been convicted associated to their presence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, this trial is significant because seditious conspiracy can be extremely difficult to prove. The last such guilty verdict was nearly 30 years ago.

Potential charges in connection to “Rust” movie set shooting – Potential charges connected to the shooting on the “Rust” movie set may be imminent. District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies in New Mexico said she’s within weeks, or even days, of receiving the final report from the sheriff’s department. She said it appears one to four people could be charged “with some variation of our homicide statute.” A cinematographer was shot and killed and a director was injured after a gun was discharged while in the hands of actor Alec Baldwin. It is unclear if Baldwin could be one of the people charged.

NASA asteroid crash test a success – A significant NASA operation has been deemed a success after a spacecraft crashed into an asteroid Monday night. It was an experiment to know if we can create enough impact on an asteroid to alter its direction if its current path were a threat to earth.

“We’re embarking on a new era of humankind, an era in which we potentially have the capability to protect ourselves from something like a dangerous, hazardous asteroid impact,” said Lori Glaze, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division. “What an amazing thing. We’ve never had that capability before.”

HAPPENING TODAY — JURY SELECTION GETS UNDERWAY IN THE CRIMINAL TRIAL OF OATH KEEPERS FOUNDER STEWART RHODES AND FOUR OF HIS ASSOCIATES.
THEY ARE CHARGED WITH SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY — ACCUSED OF PLANNING FOR WEEKS TO PREVENT THE TRANSFER OF PRESIDENTIAL POWER IN 20-20.
WHILE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONVICTED FOR THEIR ROLES IN JANUARY 6TH — THIS TRIAL IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY CAN BE EXTERMELY DIFFICULT TO PROVE.
THE LAST SUCH GUILTY VERDICT WAS NEARLY 30 YEARS AGO.
POTENTIAL CHARGES CONNECTED TO THE SHOOTING ON THE “RUST” MOVIE SET MAY BE IMMINENT.
A DISTRICT ATTORNEY IN NEW MEXICO SAID SHE’S WITHIN WEEKS — OR EVEN DAYS — OF RECEIVING THE FINAL SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORT.
SHE SAYS IT APPEARS ONE TO FOUR PEOPLE COULD BE CHARGED “WITH SOME VARIATION OF HOMICIDE.”
THE CINEMATOGRAPHER WAS SHOT AND KILLED AND A DIRECTOR WAS INJURED AFTER A GUN WAS DISCHARGED WHILE IN THE HANDS OF ACTOR ALEC BALDWIN.
IT’S UNCLEAR IF BALDWIN WOULD BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE CHARGED.

THE MISSION IS DEEMED A SUCCESS.
