Progressive Caucus gives new deadline for Build Back Better bill

The Congressional Progressive Caucus has set a new deadline for passing President Biden’s Build Back Better Bill. “We are calling for President Biden and Senate Democrats to pass the Build Back Better Act by March 1, so the President can use the power of the State of the Union platform to share with the nation the relief that people will soon receive,” caucus chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) wrote in a letter released Thursday.

Jayapal told Politico she spoke to Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) following his vote against Biden’s $1.7 trillion social spending safety net program. According to Jayapal, Manchin laid out a plan of what he would be willing to accept in a scaled-down version of the bill.

“This is both achievable and necessary,” Jayapal wrote. “There is agreement among Senate Democrats on significant parts of this bill: climate action, the care economy, taking on Big Pharma’s price gouging, and lowering health care costs. There is agreement on the need to reduce rising costs facing ordinary Americans — and that is exactly what Build Back Better does. The White House and Congressional Democrats confronted the crisis of the pandemic to pass the historic American Rescue Plan as well as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, creating millions of jobs. It’s past time to bring that same commitment to delivering Build Back Better.”

BUILD BACK BETTER IS BACK… BUT NOW IT’S LIKELY ‘BUILD BACK SMALLER.’

THE PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS SAID THEY WANT THIS DONE BY MARCH 1…

THE SAME DAY Biden will give his first State of the Union address

THE COMMITTEE CHAIR.. PRAMILA JAYAPAL.. SAYS SHE SPOKE TO

SENATOR JOE MANCHIN… WHO KILLED THE ORIGINAL BILL… ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS TO SEE.

INCLUDED… $550 billion on climate change, universal pre-K, eldercare, child care, lowering prescription drug costs and housing provisions.

NOT INCLUDED.. CHILD TAX CREDITS.

SO SOUNDS EASY PEASY.. AND KIND OF WHAT BIDEN PREDICTED IN HIS RECENT NEWS CONFERENCE.

TAKE SOT- Joe BIDEN

<<“It’s clear to me that we’re going to have to probably break it up/ I think it’s clear that we would be able to get the $500-plus billion for energy and the environment issues that are there.”>>

Annie Andersen: BUT HERE’S WHERE THINGS GET OFF-TRACK.

MANCHIN… FROM THE GET GO HE SAID HE WANTS TO HAVE THE PROGRAMS PAID FOR BEFORE HE VOTES FOR BBB…

AND THE previous HOUSE BILL DIDN’T PASS HIS TEST.

TAKE SOT-Sen. Joe MANCHIN

<<”I will not support a bill that is this consequential without thoroughly understanding the impact it will have on our national debt, our economy and the American people.”>>

Annie Andersen: ACCORDING TO POLITICO… MANCHIN ISN’T BACK AT THE NEGOTIATING TABLE.

AND ANOTHER HICCUP.. THAT MARCH 1 DATE..

TWO WEEKS AGO SPEAKER PELOSI TOLD REPORTERS SHE’S DONE WITH DEADLINES WHEN IT COMES TO BBB.

STRAIGHT FROM DC I’M AA
