Feud between Reps. Boebert, Omar escalates over Twitter video

A video posted by the Twitter account “PatriotTakes” Thursday is escalating the feud between Representatives Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) just days before Congress is set to return to Washington from its Thanksgiving break. In the video, which PatriotTakes says is from a campaign event, Rep. Boebert told a story about getting into an elevator with Rep. Omar.

“We get in the elevator and I see a Capitol Police officer running hurriedly to the elevator. I see fret all over his face, and he’s reaching,” Boebert said in the video. “I look to my left, and there she is, Ilhan Omar. I said, ‘Well she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine.’”

Omar was quick to respond to the Boebert video, saying in a quote tweet “this whole story is made up”. She called Boebert a “buffoon” who “thinks bigotry gets her clout.”

“Anti-Muslim bigotry isn’t funny and shouldn’t be normalized,” Omar tweeted. “Congress can’t be a place where hateful and dangerous Muslims [sic] tropes get no condemnation.”

Boebert sent an apology tweet “to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar” Friday morning.

“I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly,” Boebert said in the tweet. “There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”

This is the second time Boebert has gone after Omar in recent weeks. Omar came up during comments Boebert made on the House floor before the House voted to censure Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ).

“Since the speaker has designated the floor to discuss members and appropriate actions, shall we? The jihad squad member from Minnesota has paid her husband, and not her brother husband the other one, over $1 million in campaign funds,” Boebert said, according to video posted to Twitter by The Republican Accountability Project. “This member is allowed on the Foreign Affairs Committee while praising terrorists.”

Numerous outlets have fact-checked Boebert’s comments, with all finding them baseless. Omar shot back at Boebert in a quote tweet of the video.

“Luckily my dad raised me right, otherwise I might have gone to the floor to talk about this insurrectionist who sleeps with a pervert,” Omar said. “I am grateful I was raised to be a decent human and not a deprived person who shamefully defecates and defiles the House of Representatives.”
