Texas AG Paxton criticizes Biden border policy ahead of Venezuelan migrants’ arrival

A caravan of about 2,000 migrants, many Venezuelan, is heading to the U.S.-Mexico border. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has blamed the border crisis on the Biden administration’s opposition to former President Donald Trump’s border policy.

“If they would merely just do what the Trump administration did, which was enforce federal law, put the ‘Remain in Mexico’ program back in place, deport criminals, and start building this wall, and we can have an immigration policy that works,” Paxton said in an interview on Fox News Sunday. “Then if we want to address adding a greater number of people to come here legally, I have no problem with that.”

In September, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents encountered 10,812 Venezualuans. Migrants are fleeing Venezuela to avoid hardships brought on by President Nicolas Maduro’s regime. In response, the U.S. has imposed financial sanctions against the country to limit Maduro’s power.

Venezuelans are the latest group of migrants to make the daring journey to the Southern border. Those who complete the trek first must survive a week-long trip through the Darién Gap. It’s a deadly 60-mile long stretch of rivers, mountains, and valleys between Panama and Columbia.

JIMMIE JOHNSON: TEXAS REPUBLICANS ARE BLASTING THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION AHEAD OF A NEW WAVE OF MIGRANTS HEADING TO THE BORDER.

ABOUT THREE THOUSAND MIGRANTS, MANY FROM VENEZUELA, ARE FLEEING ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS CAUSED BY PRESIDENT NICOLAS MADURO. IN RECENT YEARS, THE U-S HAS UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO LIMIT MADURO’S POWER THROUGH FINANCIAL SANCTIONS.

BUT, AS A RESULT OF THE TURMOIL, THE COUNTRY HAS WITNESSED A MASS EXODUS.

IN SEPTEMBER ALONE, U-S CUSTOMS AND BORDER PATROL ENCOUNTERED MORE THAN 10-THOUSAND VENEZUELAN MIGRANTS AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER, AND THAT NUMBER IS EXPECTED TO RISE.

IN AN INTERVIEW ON FOX NEWS, TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL KEN PAXTON LAID OUT A PLAN HE THINKS THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SHOULD FOLLOW TO GET IMMIGRATION UNDER CONTROL.

KEN PAXTON, TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL: ”If they would merely just do what the Trump administration did which was enforce federal law, put the ‘Remain in Mexico’ program back in place, depart criminals, and start building this wall, we can have an immigration policy that works. Then if we want to address adding a greater number of people to come here legally, I have no problem with that.”

JIMMIE: WHAT’S INTERESTING ABOUT THIS GROUP OF MIGRANTS, THEY TOO HAD TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE DARIEN GAP, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS JUNGLES, TO GET HERE.
